The Review | Drunk Elephant Gel

Drunk Elephant is a brand I’ve noticed about a year ago but did not try until recently. Mostly because I’ve never heard about it before and because of the price tag which runs from $52 for Hydration gel and up to $90 for Night Serum. There is also soap bars for $28 and lip moisturizer which was the first product I bought from this brand. The gel was an impulse purchase actually that turned out to be one of my favorite products. Something I now proudly display on my dressing table.

The brand was founded by Tiffany Masterson, a mother of two, who was inspired by the heeling effects of Marula oil due to high content of fatty acids and antioxidants. Tiffany researched and talked to dermatologist and skincare specialists for year before founding the brand and her biggest motivation was to learn about toxic ingredients in skincare and minimize her children’s exposure to those harmful chemicals. That’s the kind of skin geek I’ll follow with my eyes closed.

When it comes to product line Drunk Elephant is very minimalistic. There’s Night and Day serums, eye serum, SPF cream that you can use for face and body, soap bars, hydration gel, lip moisturizer and marula oil, of course. There’s also a new addition – face moisturizer that is suitable for any skin type. The gel that I bough can be actually used on any place on your body that needs extra hydration. Although for this price tag I’m keeping it for my face only for now.

B-Hydra™ Intensive Hydration Gel is an anti-aging hydration gel that brightens and improves skin texture and tone, and also helps balance your skin and improve barrier function. It is formulated with Pro-Vitamin B and Pineapple Ceramide – Pineapple Ceramide contributes to skin lightening, moisturising and smoothing effect and Pro-Vitamine B attracts and holds the moisture; Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer promotes collagen formation; Watermelon Rind/Apple/Lentil Complex – a natural complex combining that provides 24 hour skin hydration and significantly reduces the appearance of fine lines. For me to find something that keeps my oily skin hydrated but at the same time doesn’t make it oily is not an easy task and this gel does the job perfectly! My forehead doesn’t shine “bright like a diamond” in few hours after applying it and my skin definitely doesn’t feel tight or dry like it did when I used other face gels. To be honest I was a little skeptical about brand’s statement that the gel “[will deliver] intense skin moisturization throughout the day”. After all it’s just the gel and not a thick moisturizer that I relied on for hydration for a long time but I was glad to learn it wasn’t the case with this one. It absorbed instantly and DOES keep my skin hydrated through the day. You can also mix it with your favorite moisturizer or oil for a boost of hydration and it is also great for any skin type. I cannot be happier with the results and definitely would recommend it.
