Am I an adventurous type? Well, if adventurous means summiting Elbrus or trying surfing, YES! Count me in. If, on the other hand, adventurous means buying bold lipstick… Not so much… This lipstick was completely out of my comfort zone, so, naturally, I bought it! As it turned out it wasn’t that scary after all. Keep reading for tips on how to apply dark colors (so it would look stylish rather than “Halloween makeup went wrong”) and to learn what other products I used for this make up.
When it comes to lipsticks I prefer to stay in nude/beige zone, light pinks sometimes and rarely reds or burgundy. Getting something of that color is quite an adventure for me. After all if I spend around $20 for a lipstick I’d better use it! But the Halloween is coming up, Fall requires darker colors, naturally, so the risk was justified. To be honest, I am really liking it at the moment!
Makeup tutorials are best explained in the videos, of course (got to start doing those sometimes soon) so here I’ll give you few advices to keep in mind when applying dark lipsticks.
HOW TO APPLY
DO NOT ever try to apply dark or any bold colors with the lipstick itself. The chances are you are going to mess it up before you even had a chance to fall in love with the color! Always use the lip brush first and then the lipstick on top of already applied color to intensify it, avoiding touching the edge of the lips though. Then kind of blend it all with the lip brush again.
Another thing to keep in mind – don’t go over the natural lip line. Colors as this one are not as forgiving as, lets say, light nude. It will not look pretty to say the least.
And don’t get upset if you mess up! I do it all the time although I’ve had quite a few years of experience. Just keep q-tips and makeup remover handy just in case. It is best to use creamy makeup removers rather than liquid ones (and just the tiny bit of it) so it won’t smear all that lipstick all over your chin and cheeks.
